Tell Me A Story
01:19
|
|||
Are you sitting comfortably
Then I'll begin
That's not sitting comfortably
That's jumping on the bed
Do you want a story or what?
Good then snuggle under the covers
Where's Eddie the teddy?
Oh you've got him
I think Eddie wants a ride in the washing machine
No not now obviously
It's bedtime
Maybe tomorrow
Now. Story
Where does this story happen?
Nice
What's the weather like?
Ooh we like that
Who is there enjoying this weather?
Aww how lovely
What are they doing?
Haha
Really? Is that right?!
Then what happened?
Well I never
Ok uh huh right yeah
Windowsill
What?! Oh sorry
Think I nodded off there

Cats Grow Names
02:34
|
|||
Let me tell you about my cats
Clanger the mother
Clanger Longtail
She went missing never to be seen again
Just after weaning her kittens
One of whom was Zebedee
Born in this room
Who lived till 2 weeks past his 17th birthday
A fantastic cat
Known locally as The General
Also known by me as Little Mate
Then came along brother and sister kittens
Leeloo and Gizmo
The name Leeloo didn't last long
And she soon became The Meepster
Or just Meeps after the cute little noise she makes
She is a sassy cat
Takes zero nonsense from anyone
No rise or jump from her
Please
She likes to go and hang out at the vets down the road
Where she is known as Lady Lionhead
She is a tiny thing under all that fluff
Gizmo was her brother who was only 7 when he died
A nicer cat you could not meet
So nice he grew into Gizmo Timothy
But he was a demon with his paws
Really dextrous and loved juggling a pen
Or foil balls
So became Gizmo Timothy Beckham
And when dear old Zeb The General passed
He became Sergeant Gizmo Timothy Beckham
He was so patient with next door's cat Lucky who moved in
He was always Ninja here
The neighbours moved away but Ninja stayed
You can't tell cats
A small white triangle bib is all you might glimpse
Of a coiled pounce from the shadows
He has grown the title Lord now
But don't be fooled
His full name is Lord Ninja Ninja Nobody Likes You (Except For Chioma)
But I suppose I do really
Anyway cats grow names. What names has your cat grown recently?

Stalking Sleep
03:01
|
|||
I'm gonna creep up nice and slow behind you
Cos you're a cunning rascal don't I know
No matter where you try to hide I'll find you
There'll be nowhere for slumber left to go
I'm stalking sleep through mental alleyways
And lurking in the shadows of my soul
I lie there watching nights turn into days
On land of nod perimeter patrol
I'm making such an effort to relax
I am breathing deep
And I'm counting sheep
I'm stalking sleep
Things aren't what they seem
I'm on the edge of a dream
Drifting off downstream
So run you rabbit run you rabbit run
Like Elmer Fudd I'm gonna hunt you down
And in the end when all is said and done
I'll doze beneath the cosy eiderdown
I'm making such an effort to relax
I am breathing deep
And I'm counting sheep
I'm stalking sleep
Elusive sleep I'm coming for the kill
Soak up your essence till I've had my fill

Suspended in the fearful dark
Human beings float
In filthy glass tanks torsos bloat
Shine white through murky fluid
Cccc
Clammy slimy glistening
Waxen bleached pale skin
Hhhhhhhh
Haunting underwater cries
In half dead sleep
Empty eyes
Invisibly weep
Hideous
Sss ac ccc
Shrill crackle and click and clack
Gigantic Geiger insects attack
Cccc
Claw fang
Pincers grip
Grinding mucous mandibles drip
Toxic hiss
Oozing sticky acidic kiss
The victims fight kick flail
Fail
Ac ac ac ac
Acrid yellow liquid venom
Paralysis injects
Sucking proboscis ingests
And to the infested nest
Maggoty mass a crawling mess
Of lardy larvae bugs
And the monsters feed hungry bulging grubs

Red Carpet
03:31
|
|||
In my dream last night I was mingling with the stars of the British music scene
Past and present
Dead and alive
In a red carpet after show party
I could read their minds
Ian Dury was chatting with Ray Davies
Convinced that Ray didn't like him
But Ray was more concerned with Lilly Allen in the corner
Who was giving him funny looks
He presumes because of the vol-au-vent debacle
Really she is thinking
"He's laughing at my fringe"
Toyah brushes past me concerned she will not make it to the loo in time
There's Damon Albarn and that bloke who was in Eastenders
Park life!
They are caught up in a spiral of out-cockneying each other
Until they dissolve in a heap of
Cor blimey how's yer father lady Godiva I should coco
"I don't even know what I'm saying anymore" thinks Damon
"Nor me" thinks the bloke who was in Eastenders
"Hold up" said Billy Bragg
"I just saw david bowie over there!
How did he get here too?"
I said "That was Ziggy Stardust
This is Aladdin Sane
You can do that here"
And Billy shuddered inwardly
While laughing a hearty laugh
And shouting "Neat!"
"Oh hi Billy" said David
Just knowing billy doesn't like that hi-hat sound in space oddity
"See you around, David" said Paul Weller
Glad of an excuse to get away
Thinking "He just wants to steal my winkle pickers"
Don't look now but here's Robbie Williams!
He's upset that Suggs just ignored him
But playing it cool
Maybe if he could see that Suggs was only upset himself
He was sure that Paul Mc @*!? Cartney
Had spat in his beer
Robbie made a beeline for Freddie Mercury
Well he would wouldn't he?
"Hey Robbie I like your style" said Freddie
Robbie's heart fluttered
Even though he was positive
Freddie could see he was a fake
Elton John, Phil Collins and Ed Sheeran tried to get a conga going
Thinking "We'll show them"
While Sting and Kate Bush looked on
Cringing inside
But laughing and applauding them
Eyeing each other as if to say
"Aren't we good sports"
And the convivial words and the contrary thoughts
Reverberate around the room
A soup of paranoia and insecurity
"Excuse me" came a voice behind me
It was Syd Barratt
"Couldn't help reading your mind
You see them too don't you?"

Lumière
01:40
|
|||
Saggy suited men in hats
Judder jerky on the screen
Solemn faces
Speedy paces
Jitter comically about
With a slightly doubtful eye
New invention
Apprehension
Dust and scratches flicker past
Caught in this moment
Colourless mothers
Lift the baby
Mouthing coo coo
In a silent world

Call It Another Day
01:47
|
|||
Shall we just call it a day today?
It is 3 am
It's not quite time for anything
Is it last night or tomorrow morning?
We're in limbo
Everyone's asleep
Like operating in stolen time
Birds are singing in the day
Sunlight creeping up on the horizon
Can't switch off
Mind rats gnawing and even just nibbling delicately around the edges
Silly mind rats
Shall we just put the kettle on call it another day?
What do you think?
Put the kettle on?
Call it another day?
Call it another day

Ooh, Mary
It's not my hip that's giving me jip
Oh no!
It's me amygdala, Mary!
Right playing me up it is...
It is...They are.. Whichever way you look at it
For two little almonds in each side of yer brain
They don't half cause a lot of trouble
Only the size of marbles
Oi cheeky never mind my marbles
I'm a slave to my amygdala, Mary
You know that
Too right, Mary!
I know!
Then the hippocampus and hypothalamus have to get involved
All that fight or flight-- oh yeah or freeze
All that adrenaline rushing
All that cortisol gushing
It's scary, Mary!
I'm a slave to my amygdala, Mary
You know that
Too right, Mary!
I know!
Once you get all that firing off down your vagus nerve you're done for
Sends all my organs haywire
And what does my limbic system think of that?
I hate that cortisol - it's so stressy
I like a bit of dopamine me
Nice hit of serotonin
I'm a slave to my amygdala, Mary
You know that
Too right, Mary!
I know!
Never been one for endorphins though
Too much pain involved
Wise words, Mary
Couldn't have said it better myself
You're a right good dosing of oxytocin, Mary
Well yes I will say that
Well it's true

Hardcore Parkour

|
|||
Hardcore parkour
I want to just do it
But I lack ability agility
Strength and stability
Oh the cool street nobility
Of such smooth and sleek mobility
Scaling walls like spiderman
Leaping urban chasms
With an immunity to gravity
Hop skip and jump you concrete athlete
So neat so sweet so quick on ya feet
It will always be one of my failings
A disappointment I don't slide down railings
Hardcore parkour

Daffodils
01:05
|
|||
As crocuses prick the lawns with coloured darts
The emergence of the daffodils starts
Their finger tips pushing through the earth
Reaching for the new season's birth
Days becoming brighter
Evenings getting lighter
Dense clusters of fresh green
New untouched and clean
They lift their heads, still tightly wrapped at first
Waiting for the perfect time to burst
And unfurl their flags of gold
And raise their trumpets high and bold
With a flourish they shout
Winter is out out out
March on march oh yellow parade
Pulling sunshine into the shade
With a fanfare they sing
Bring in bring in bring in the spring
